Wars of the Vein: Chapter 6
Tristan I Dragon's Harbor, the port town that never rests. Or so everyone says anyway. Tristan could see why that was the general consensus. Ships were docking in and out almost regularly; the workers and laborers bringing them in and offloading the cargo without repose. They then sent the ships away before signalling in the next number of ships, repeating the process. It looked very much like the busy and exhausting occupation he had heard; what with the laborers all dripping with sweat and taking no breaks. Such was the demanding task of a dock worker. Though such jobs were not without their merits. The constant manual handling kept all the men and women fit and healthy; even the younger dockers had some muscle on their bones. While farm work paled in comparison, Tristan could still relate to some extent. He knew how difficult it was working constantly from dawn until dusk on his father’s farm. One good long look at the younger dockers struggling to lift and move the wooden

Dominic II Waking up in the middle of the night was a common occurrence for Dominic. Despite his efforts to secure himself a peaceful slumber, he was denied yet again by the nightmares that seem to forever plague his sleep. Though he was tempted to try and go back to sleep, the horrifying images were still very much fresh in his mind. Images of burning cities, corpse-ridden fields, and shadowy monstrosities set against the backdrop of a dark fiery sky. At the advice of Lucian, who was at his side upon waking up, Dominic decided to settle for a cup of tea; rather than go back to sleep and risk falling back into the horror of the nightmares. While his private tutor offered to retrieve the refreshment for him, Dominic was not interested in staying put in his bed; instead, choosing to go to the dining hall himself. If he was going to stay awake in the middle of the night, the short walk to the dining hall would probably help him a little. As always, Lady Maria saw fit to

Wars of the Vein: Chapter 4
Louis I There was not one individual in all of York who relished the last several years of peace more than Louis Gauthier. Not to his knowledge anyway. After five years of conflict, hostility, hatred, bloodshed and destruction, these last number of years were a godsend. If only they had come sooner. Leading the people of York through such dark times was the most difficult challenge Louis had ever faced in his entire life. To this day, he still questioned himself on how he was able to bear the weight of it all. Any ordinary man or woman would have crumbled under such pressure. Yet he led them. And he did so unwaveringly. He had to. It was expected of him after all. When someone is the current Lord of their House, they must meet the expectations of their vassals, their soldiers and their people. In Louis' case as a Prince of an entire Kingdom however, those expectations rose even higher, and the challenge to meet them even greater. Given that several of his ancestors were

Gwendolyn I Watching the sunrise was one of the few remaining things Gwendolyn could truly enjoy in the early hours of the morning. Nowadays, it was difficult to find any enjoyment when so many people required her attention. Life was so much easier when she was a child. At least back then, she was not the one who had to sit on the throne and listen to the complaints and arguments of nobles from all over the country. Not that she ever found it difficult. On the contrary, she was more than used to it. After all, this is what she had studied for her entire life. Even at a very young age, she studied long and hard to ensure she was more than ready for the position she would inevitably inherit. Not only that, but she was also present in court many times when her mother and father would listen to the nobles, settle disputes and other political issues. She had all the experience she could ever need. Just because she excelled at it did not mean she enjoyed it. For every honest and

Dominic I Dominic saw them again. The images that continued to plague his very dreams; images of burning cities, corpse-ridden fields and shadowy monstrosities that slaughter all in their path. The fires of war spreading across from one end of the continent to the other. When the conflict was put to a halt five years ago, it was only then that he had started to receive these nightmares. He would often try to close his eyes and cover his ears to try and block it all out. However the destructive sight remained in his vision; the sounds of people screaming their last cries filled his ears. At only sixteen years old, his young mind struggled endlessly to brave the horrific nightmares and overcome them. Sometimes, he would even try to stay awake. But no matter how hard he tried, eventually he, like every other living creature in the world, would succumb to the irresistible temptation of sleep. It was a scary sight for someone as young himself. Someone who had never once been

Wars of the Vein: Prologue
Prologue Patrol the borders. That was all they were supposed to do. That was the simple task given to them by the Imperial Captain. When scouts reported that the Northerners were transporting supplies to Cainfield Castle, Roderick took this as a potential sign that Serdias was preparing to launch an attack on their borders. Of course, there was no evidence to support this, but territorial as they have always been, they rode North to patrol the borders at the Captain's command. Yet as they travelled to their destination, Roderick wondered; why would Gwendolyn Alexandra attack Bavaria now? The ceasefire was agreed to by the Empire, Serdias and York, and though there was a deep hatred between the first two, it had lasted for five years now. Five years of recovering from a brutal, bloody war. A war brought about by the foundation of the Hildebrandt Empire. Five years of peace. Why disrupt it now? “You gone deaf on me, Roderick?” Roderick snapped out of his thoughts and turned to
